Dear Plastuny,

‍I warmly welcome you to the ski camp in Killington, Vermont. Our kurin, Vataha Burlakiv, has been organizing ski camps since 1954, when the very first camp took place on Whiteface Mountain in New York. Since then, our ski camps have been held across many regions of North America, including Quebec, New York, and Vermont.

This year’s camp is perfectly captured by the Burlak march:
“Hey, we are the Burlaks, the Burlaks, each accustomed to hard work…” When it became impossible to continue holding camp at Gore Mountain, it did not stop our march forward. “We wander across the world, but we always return home!”
This year, we made an important decision to move the ski camp from New York to Vermont in order to ensure better weather and excellent skiing conditions. We hope this new location will become a long-term home for our ski camps and a place where many unforgettable memories are created for our Plastuny.

A successful ski camp requires more than snow and cold weather. It also requires leadership and Plastuny themselves. To our command staff and bulava, thank you for your Plast dedication, hard work, and commitment to making this camp a success. To our campers, thank you for your enthusiasm, your openness to new adventures, and your love for the Plast spirit. We are truly happy to see you here.

I have many warm memories from ski camps when I was a kid, and I sincerely hope that each of you will leave this camp with unforgettable memories of your own. I wish you and your families a Happy New Year, a wonderful camp experience, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Dear Plastuny,

It is a great honor for me to serve as your camp leader for this year’s ski camp.

The kurin Vataha Burlakiv has a long and proud history of organizing and leading ski camps throughout North America, and we are delighted to gather once againthis time in Vermont on Pico Mountainafter five years of cancellations due to snow conditions.

This year, 57 participants from many parts of the United States and Canada are attending camp, and for many of you, this is your first time. Over the course of the week, we hope you will improve your skiing skills, strengthen old friendships and build new ones, and experience winter Plast activities. Skiing is a wonderful way to enjoy nature in winter while staying active, healthy, and full of adventureall qualities that are essential to a Plastun.

I wish all of you a pleasant and unforgettable camp. I extend my sincere thanks to our incredible bulava, administration, hosts, and volunteers for making this camp possible. We are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic group of participants this yeareager to be involved and ready for adventure.

May the new year bring you success in everything you do, both in school and in Plast. We look forward to seeing all of you again at ski camp in 2026.

Why Ski Camp?
For more than 75 years, Burlaky Ski Camp has brought generations of Plastuny together in the mountains. From homemade skis in post-war Europe to today’s Vermont slopes, it’s become a tradition that’s less about learning how to ski and more about skiing together — building friendships, strengthening Ukrainian identity, and carrying forward a culture of grit and camaraderie.
